THE ICE CREAM PARLOURS
The Ice Cream Palour opposite the Royal Hotel was owned By the Divito Brothers; The rear Garage part of this property was used for the weigh in of fish when the boat competitions were held.
The Corner Parlour at the top of Broad Street was owned by Jean , these were a haunt for many of us:
Roger Divito has kindly sent these cartoons to me, do you remember those days?
The cartoons below were drawn by Jeremy Owen; a customer of Tony Divito, and were displayed, along with many others he drew, under the glass table tops in the ice cream parlour. They reflect some of the cliental at the time.

The two photo's here are of Betty Divito, second wife of Horace Divito, they both worked from the vans; Horace was stationed at the entrance to Dover Castle for many years. Pictures compliments of Roger Divito
David Skardon's Fish Van 1986
The Photograph above was taken on 4th April 1986 in Well Lane St. Margarets Bay,it is a picture of my fish van, in the days when I used to supply many country villages with fresh fish, also poultry veg and fruit from dads farm. The photo has been kindly donated to me by St Margaret’s History Society, their site has a lovely array of old photo's and is well worth a visit. Please click the picture above to visit St. Margrets Archives.

Sandown Mill
The Mill was erected in 1787, with the object of supplying flour to the public at reasonable prices. it was said at the time in question there was a "ring" to keep up prices of a comodity which was in much demand for the ships often anchored in large numbers in the Downs. The Sandown was outside the ring and the undertaking was run by Thomas Oakley, brewer; banker and shipping agent of the town.
The name appears several times in the list of Mayors of Deal, a similar name appears in 1730, when against the name of
" Thomas Oakley" is the entry "died" 1765
